How to figure out what you want when you feel stuck
Updated: 2026-10-21When you do not know what you want, stop looking for one big purpose and run small experiments instead. Write down what you envy, what you lose track of time doing and what you complain about; pick one small wish for the next month from that list; try it for a week and keep what gives you energy. Clarity usually comes from action, not from thinking.
Three quick exercises
- Envy list: whose life or work makes you a little jealous? It points to what you want.
- Flow list: when did you last forget the time? What were you doing?
- Complaint list: what bothers you most? A problem you care about can become a goal.
- From all three, pick one wish you can test in a month.
Make it a small experiment
Instead of “change careers”, try “talk to two people who do this work” or “do one small paid task in this field”. A week of small action tells you more than months of planning.
How Open Abundance can help
Open Abundance starts with one wish. If you are unsure, the onboarding and the AI coordinator help you pick a small one, and you can see what goals other members are working on for inspiration. Changing or dropping a wish is always fine.
